Academic Writing *
Study the rules to writing for academics, use the written word to explain a situation or idea, or convince the reader to take a position for or against something. The writing you learn here will make school assignments less intimidating. And writing well will certainly help you in life.

Algebra Review
Have you already taken algebra? Then come aboard and let’s review what you know so we can prepare you for the next level. You’ll be amazed at how often there are examples of algebra being used to solve problems in the world around us. From sports to space travel, we’ll begin to recognize some of the uses of algebraic variables that make math come alive.

Arabic - An Introduction
The Arabic world has made significant contributions to human civilizations and its traditions have influenced world cultures for centuries. It’s a heritage that is rich, wise and complex and also very beautiful. The Arabic language is spoken on every continent and in numerous countries. This summer, join in our introductory exploration into the Arabic language.

Chinese - An Introduction
Chinese may be the language spoken by the largest number of people in the world. Learn useful phrases, write your name in Chinese character and learn common greetings so you can get a head start on your own exploration into Chinese language and culture.

ESL Grammar *
Now that you’ve decided to learn the English language, the next step is learning grammar that will make you communicate more confidently. Our instructors will begin with the basics and guide you through the rules that will make you both a better speaker and writer. And the best part is that after class, there will be a lot of time to practice what you are learning on your new friends.

ESL Language Arts *
The English language can be intimidating for anyone, including some native speakers. But we’ll make it easy and exciting for you as we help you improve your speaking, reading and writing skills so you can communicate confidently with your American and international friends. When friends are involved, it’s amazing how easy the English flows.

For Reading Out Loud
Sometimes the best way to improve your reading is to read out loud and to hear others, too. This class is all about reading and enjoying it. We’ll read plays, poems and short stories, taking turns to allow everyone to hear one another. It will be a great learning experience, but it will also allow us to relax and enjoy reading among supportive peers. Don’t worry, there will also be plenty of time for silent reading, too. (For ages 10-13.)

Geometry — Intro and Review
The word “geometry” is made up from the Greek words geo (“earth”) and metron (“measure”), and means a form of mathematics that uses points, lines, circles and triangles to study figures in a space. Our geometry class is a basic one, but a fun one, too, and we’ll explore the many uses of the study of shapes to solve a variety of problems.

Good Times in Grammar *
You hear that correct grammar is important from many people in your life: your teachers, your parents and even your friends. But did you know that learning grammar can be fun, too? Experience better grammar by reviewing its basic rules (using a lot of sentences) for both the spoken and written word. Knowing the rules will also make it easier for you to learn other languages. Try it, and you may like it.

Literary Adventures
Literature has many purposes and opens doors to unique worlds. We know it in many forms, such as fiction, non-fiction, drama, poetry and essays—but always literature represents the human experience. We’ll discuss what makes a piece of writing literature, and what makes it great literature. Does literature have to be celebrated to be enjoyed? What about pulp fiction or graphic novels? There will be lots of conversations and exploration for those of you who love to read. (For ages 14 and above.)

Pre-Algebra
If even the thought of signing up for algebra has tied you up in knots, this course is for you. We’ll help you review the math fundamentals you need to enter the world of equations, graphing and variables. Once prepared, you might even find the prospect of taking your first algebra class exciting.

Writing Fun *
It’s one thing to write a paper for a class that you have to do. It’s quite another to just grab paper and a pen to record your thoughts and let your creative juices flow. This class is all about the fun part—putting your ideas to paper to remember them first and then to share them with others. Hopefully, after you get a few tips from the instructor, the stories will pour out of you. No fear, there won’t be homework. There will be plenty of time to write during class. You may choose fiction, non-fiction or diary-style writing. But the important thing is that you are having fun doing it.

* These Classes Will Be Divided Into Age-Appropriate Sections
