This dynamic class is for the high school academic writer wanting an in-depth look at the art and science of the English language. This class will focus on strong sentences, paragraphs, and ultimately full essays. Get ready for your next school year and prepare for college in this class that will have you saying 'wow!' to your own academic writing abilities. Who says writing a paper can't be fun?

Chillin' With Will: Shakespeare for High School (Ages 14 and Older)
Our expert faculty will take this class on a whirlwind tour of selections from Shakespeare's most popular plays and poems. Perhaps the magic and murder found in
Macbeth will surprise you; perhaps the love and loss found in
Romeo and Juliet will delight you; maybe even the whimsy and wonder found in
A Midsummer Night's Dream will enchant you…be ready for a literary ride of a life time!

Chillin' With Will: Shakespeare for Middle School (Ages 10 - 13)
William Shakespeare is one of the most famous authors in the English language. His plays, poems, life and times remain fascinating, even today. This class offers an exciting overview of this bards and his work. You'll read some of his more well-known passages ("bubble bubble, toil and trouble!"), explore many of his adventurous plot twists (murder! mayhem! romance! riches!), and learn about the Globe Theater--all while getting an enjoyable jump-start on your next academic year.

Chinese for Beginners (Ages 10 - 13) (Ages 14 and Older)
China is one of the world's oldest civilizations. Already, the most spoken language in the world, Chinese is the second most spoken language at The Northwest School. Start from the beginning and tackle the basics of speaking and writing. and remember, laughter and fun are the same in any tongue.

ESL Adventures (Ages 10 - 13) (Ages 14 and Older)
Come join our Campbassadors and expert teachers who will bring to life the magic of the English Language. In these specially designed language classes, our faculty, American student assistants and you explore and enjoy the English language as both an art and a science. We will deal with the essential building blocks, such as grammar and pronunciation, but also explore world events, beginning essay writing and famous young adult American literature.

Fun Science: Rockets and Race Cars (All Ages)
5…4…3…2…1 BLAST OFF! Sound barriers and outer space! Race cars and water rockets! Learn how to design, build, and launch rockets and race cars. This annual camp favorite always has laughter and activity roaring down the halls and into the skies. The whole camp eagerly turns out to watch the final competitions, guaranteeing a good time for all. and yes, you learn a lot about the science of flight and locomotion, too.

LMNOP (Ages 10 -13)
Return to school in the fall with your academic reading and writing more spectacular, more convincing, more alive. In this class, everyone improves because our expert faculty will take you on an adventure in English. We use critical reading of extremely fun texts and write about what we read and discuss. There is never a dull moment when you're learning the art and science of the English language.

Math Made Easy (All Ages)
Join the quest for 'the answer'. Solve unknown variables. Review your math basics or move on to more challenging problem solving and critical math thinking. This class is perfect for any student of math, because you work at your own level! It's also the perfect place for students of different ages to help each other! Whether you love math or wish it didn't exist, this class will help take the mystery out of math and get you ready-and excited!-for the next school year.

Mythsterious (Ages 10 - 13)
Cultures have always used 'myth' to explain the unexplainable. This intriguing class is designed for the student who loves stories of creation, heroes and quests. Study classical Greco-Roman myths, as well as myths from many world cultures. How did classical peoples explain the seasons (Ceres / Demeter) or death (Hades / Pluto) or love (Venus / Aphrodite)? How did other cultures explain the same things? If you were a classical god, who would you be… and why?

Spanish: Basics and Review (All Ages)
A class for the beginning Spanish language student. Are you beginning your Spanish studies and want an enjoyable introduction to this language spoken literally by millions? Maybe you've had some Spanish and could use a review? Either way, this class is always interesting and always fun.
Period 3
Spanish: Intermediate and Advanced (All Ages)
The Northwest School has a very established and successful Spanish language program. This summer you can become even more fluent, especially with the help of campers from Spain who attend every year! If you've had at least 2 years of Spanish language study, or the equivalent, keep building your skills in this rich and challenging class.
Period 2
Writers Salon (Ages 14 and Older)
Writers need each other. Whether you write prose, poetry, plays or anything in between, you need a community of peers who are eager to share and listen. What do you have to say? Better yet, how will you say it? You will be amazed at the wonderful wizardry of your own words…and your teachers in the coming school year will be astounded by your writing.
Period 3
Young Writers Workshop (Ages 10 - 13)
Explore youth literature genres such as graphic novels, poetry and short fiction. Visit one of Seattle's famous centers for youth writing. Enjoy exercising your unique voice, as you improve your writing skills! Be risky in your writing and share your work with other young writers in this safe, adventurous class.
